Silkscreening
We offer the highest quality single and multi-color silkscreening. We
can create custom graphics for you or we'll reproduce yours!
The term “Silk Screen” comes from the material used in
the process. The silk material is coated with a paste that hardens when
exposed to light. The artwork used is placed on top of the silk material
and both are exposed to light. The material is then washed, leaving just
the silk material where the design should be. Special heat activated ink is
squeezed through the material upon the T shirt or item being printed. The
item is passed through a high temperature heater and the ink is cured
creating a permanent, long wearing design. If the design is more that one
color, the process is repeated for each color used. If the design is being
put on a dark item, a white layer must be put down first, this is called
flashing. Flashing makes the colors “pop” off the shirt in brilliant
contrast. Failure to flash creates a weak, thin color, if a color at all.
Keeping all this in mind, the price is more for
printing dark items than for printing light items since no flash is needed
with light items. Also since a screen must be created for each color used,
the more colors, the more screens and the more money.
The chart below gives you a fairly good idea of what to
expect with pricing as they relate to quantity and shirt color. Kings
Bay Athletics will often provide Artistic Services for free, but the Silk
Screener charges for each screen used for each color. This is referred to
as a Screen Charge.
